Description:
We were a 10% JV partner in the Ilembe Civils JV, which teams were responsible for this project. A new fuel farm and reservoirs were included in this high profile project. The scale of this project entailed moving around 5,8 million cubic metres of earth, pouring 145 000 cubic metres of concrete and laying 230 000 tons of asphalt. The new 3.7km x 60m wide runway could accommodate the new Airbus A380 aircraft while the aprons could accommodate 29 parked aircraft. The project was completed on schedule on 29th April 2010 and the first plane landed 2 days later.

Project: Widening of existing dual carriageway from Mount Edgecombe to King Shaka International Airport

Description:
Construction of the 17km dual carriageway commenced on 25 March 2009. The job entailed moving approximately 600 000 cubic metres of bulk earthworks, processing 200 000 cubic metres of layerworks and pouring 7000 cubic metres of concrete. The 15 month contract was accelerated to 12 months due to the opening of KSIA. The project was successfully completed 3 months ahead of schedule, despite the challenge of different soil types every 20 metres.

Description:
We came on board this 5 year project in March 2010 and were responsible for layerworks and drainage on a 4km stretch of the new eastbound carriageway. The design of the layerworks entailed 7 layers and all materials were sourced locally from Lafarge Quarries
